Pere Marquette River
It was a cloudy and cool morning as we departed from
Lake Hills to traverse the mighty Pere Marquette in Baldwin.
With 12 vehicles in the caravan, we stopped east of Hesperia
for cider and donuts. We arrived at Baldwin Canoe Rental
shortly after 10:00 and spent about 10 more minutes on
the road traveling to Bouman Bridge, our point of departure.
The beauty of this ecosystem was apparent to every
explorer. On several occasions, some of us witnessed
fishermen catching a powerful salmon swimming upstream.
Even Mr. Chittenden
and Shelby enjoyed a relaxing excursion.
We all enjoyed the three and a half hour river trip, even if
things did get a little wet for some. A total of 17 canoes and
5 kayaks journeyed the swift current of the Pere Marquette.
